One of the big difficulties that researchers face today is recruiting participant’s to their studies.  At the same time, many people are looking for studies to contribute to and take part in but don’t know where to find out about them.

Join Dementia Research forms part of the Governments Dementia strategy and is a service that delivers opportunities for people to see what studies are taking place both in their local area and nationally and connecting researchers with them. It is only through research that we can understand what causes the disease, develop effective treatments, improve care and hopefully one day find a cure.

The Join Dementia Research animation below explains more about how to get involved in UK dementia research.

The government’s aims are:

  • Individuals with a diagnosis and their carer will be advised they can take part in research and signposted to Join Dementia Research.
  • All staff supporting clients and their carers will be aware of JDR and know how to direct them to Join Dementia Research.
  • 25% of newly diagnosed individuals will be signed up on the Join Dementia Research Database.
  • 10% of all clients with a diagnosis will be involved in research.

Anyone over the age of 18 can sign up, you do not need a diagnosis.  By signing up you only provide consent to be contacted by a researcher.  You do not need to take part. The choice is down to you.  You can either sign up at https://www.joindementiaresearch.nihr.ac.uk/signup or via the national helpdesk on 0300 222 1122.
