Helping primary care to support people with dementia

Reading well books on prescription for dementia

February 4 2015

The Reading well books on prescription for dementia scheme is available in public libraries as part of a national library strategy to support the development of dementia-friendly communities and build understanding and awareness of the condition.

Through the scheme, health professionals can recommend helpful reading to support people with dementia and their carers. People can also self-refer using the booklist to borrow titles for free from their local library.

At a national cost average of £1 per person, the scheme offers a cost-effective way of delivering community-based dementia care and support.

Find out more by viewing the full list of titles on the Reading well books on prescription for dementia booklist or visiting the Reading Well website for users of the scheme.

Reading well books on prescription for dementia is run by the Reading Agency in partnership with the Society of Chief Librarians, with funding from Arts Council England.
