Better Understanding of Dementia for Sandwell (BUDS) is an independent charity which provides services for people diagnosed with dementia, their carers and families within the borough of Sandwell.

BUDS offer a variety of activities and services across Sandwell including activity groups, day services, befriending, talking therapy and training and advice.

BUDS training, advice and information service

BUDS provide training for a range of professionals, families and organisations to increase their understanding of dementia. Provides advice on practical skills to support someone through their journey with dementia. Contact Claire Mahmood, Training and Development Officer on 0121 565 3721 for more information. BUDS activity sessions

BUDS provide people diagnosed with dementia the opportunity to socialise, receive support and take part in a variety of creative and stimulating activities. Activities are varied and focus on one to one and group activities. Fees apply for this service. Contact Sharon Crowley, Services Manager for more information on 0121 565 3721.

BUDS talking therapy service

BUDS free and confidential counselling service is available to unpaid family carer’s of people living with dementia in Sandwell. If you would like to book a session or find out more information please telephone the office on 0121 565 3721.

BUDS befriending service

The BUDS befriending service offers the opportunity for a person with dementia to receive a weekly visit for a couple of hours from a volunteer. Befriending can help to improve the well-being of a person with dementia and offers valuable respite time for a carer.
