The Birmingham and Midland Eye centre, is the second largest eye centre in Europe, receiving referrals from GPs and hospitals Birmingham and the West Midlands. We treat the whole range of eye conditions from relatively common, minor complaints through to Glaucoma, Cataracts and diabetic related eye conditions. Our teams also provide treatments for rare conditions not available elsewhere in the UK.

Community Alarm, Emergency Carers Card Scheme – 0121 569 6800

To provide a emergency and non emergency community alarm service for older, vulnerable, disabled people who could be vulnerable in their own homes. To offer assistance at the touch of a button, by wearing a pendant or wrist watch to summons for help. Key holding and mobile response available, 24hours a day, 365 days of the year.

They also offer a Carers Emergency Card which tells emergency services that a person is a carer and someone depends on them. The card just shows a unique ID number and the phone number of their 24-hour contact centre, where carers details are held with information about the person cared for. In an emergency the centre will call the people the carer has told us can help. This will usually be friends or family, or the Councils services if no one else is available. sandwell.gov.uk

Rare Dementia Support (RDS) is a world-leading, UK-based service provided by the UCL Dementia Research Centre (DRC) and partners and funded by The National Brain Appeal.

RDS supports people affected by 6 of the rare dementias including carers and bereaved carers. These are: Familial Alzheimer’s disease (FAD), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), familial frontotemporal dementia (fFTD), posterior cortical atrophy (PCA), primary progressive aphasia (PPA) and Lewy body dementia (LBD). raredementiasupport.org

Sandwell Ring and Ride – 0330 053 8136 

Ring and Ride is the door-to-door service for anyone who lives in the urban areas of the West Midlands that find it difficult or impossible to use normal public transport. Passengers can use the service for catching up with friends, popping out for a bit of shopping, a night at the theatre or for healthcare appointments. Just bear in mind that we are unable to take passengers for a hospital appointment. We can, however, take users of the service to visit someone that is in hospital. ringandride.org

Sandwell Shopmobility Loan Service – 0121 553 1931/1943 – Open Tuesday to Saturday – 8.30am to 2.30pm

Shopmobility provides a wheelchair and mobility scooter loan service, available to anyone with limited mobility. The service enables customers to use the scooter/chairs for 2 or 3 hours giving them the opportunity to complete their shopping in West Bromwich.

The Herbert Protocol is a form that is aimed to try and protect people who suffer from dementia or Alzheimer’s.

It can be filled in by carers, family or friends of a person who could go missing at any time.
