Dementia Friendly Winchester (DFW)July 27 2015
Dementia Friendly Winchester (DFW) is a group that evolved from the initiative to make Winchester high street a ‘dementia friendly high street’. Dementia Friendly Winchester
The group is made up of volunteers who have a wide span of interest and expertise, from personal to professional, in working with people who are living with dementia.
A large number of the group are Dementia Champions, who have been trained by the Alzheimer’s Society to deliver awareness sessions.
The aim of the group is to grow Winchester as a Dementia Friendly Community. This is a big task, so as a group we have decided to start by focusing of certain areas to help spread the word of this work. Our focus projects currently:
- Present regular awareness sessions open to the public at Winchester Discovery Centre http://www3.hants.gov.uk/wdc
- Liaise with the Cathedral to run awareness sessions with volunteer staff; there is a Special Evensong in October to be dedicated to people living with dementia http://www.winchester-cathedral.org.uk
- The group also aims to support those businesses already signed up to Dementia Friendly High Street and signing up new businesses
If you are interested in joining us as a volunteer, or if you would like to run some awareness sessions please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
