Helping primary care to support people with dementia

Milford on Sea Dementia Action Group

May 8 2016

The Action Group run Dementia Friends awareness sessions for businesses, organisations, and individuals in the community. These sessions aim to challenge the stigma associated with dementia and help people to understand what it must be like, both for those living with dementia, their carers and their families. Since 2014, well over 40 local businesses and organisations in Milford have signed up to the Dementia Friendly Villages Initiative.

Milford has two village groups (music and reminiscence) which help people with dementia and their carers to engage in community life. The Action Group provide the funding for the Reminiscence Group.

Publicity is central to the work of the Action Group. We have set up three information points, in the War Memorial Hospital Foyer, the Library and the Community Centre. These provide information and signposting to services for people living with dementia and their carers.
